Dr. Jody G. Abrams, MD is a fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon at Sarasota Retina Institute, a retina-centered group practice serving the Sarasota-Bradenton area since 1981. He earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, completed his ophthalmology residency there, and then pursued a combined oculoplastic/neuro-ophthalmology fellowship in Detroit under Dr. Thomas Spoor, becoming board certified in ophthalmology in 2008. His dual subspecialty places him among an elite group of fewer than 500 neuro-ophthalmologists in North America, and he treats visual problems tied to neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, stroke, facial nerve palsy, pseudotumor cerebri, and headaches, while also performing oculoplastic (eyelid and orbital) surgery. He joined Sarasota Retina Institute in 2011 after several years in private practice in Chattanooga, TN, and has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. The institute itself is a multi-physician retina and eye-care group with offices in Sarasota, Venice, and surrounding communities.
